Vignette 13: Zachary, a Rational Inventor (ENTP)
By Dr. Lovegood
Zachary is a 29 year old Rational Inventor, ENTP. He works as an investment manager. He enjoys anticipating changes
in the market and making them work for him and his clients. He's trying to create a computer based model to predict big
changes over time. This model uses many different metrics from the consumer confidence index to the federal reserve
interest rate to number of housing starts and so on. So far it has been too complicated to program accurately, but he
thinks he's getting close.
Zach has enjoyed long relationships with several different women. They have been very different from each other, but
that has been part of the charm. He likes to get to know women even if he doesn't have a romantic relationship in mind.
It's fun to see how he can usually elicit the response he wants from them.
His relationships have ended when the woman has begun to seriously talk about making the relationship more permanent.
He dislikes being pushed and manipulated. Also, in the back of his mind, he wonders if one woman will ever really satisfy
him. He likes the variety of knowing so many different women that he isn't sure being tied to one woman is a good way to
live. As soon as a girlfriend believes their relationship is serious, she begins to try and limit the other women he
talks to and is friends with. He's afraid of being pushed into commitment.
At this point, though, he wants to get married and have a family, but he wonders if he can convince himself to make
a commitment and if that's even a good idea. As he's looked back on previous relationships, he can see that the more his
girlfriends tried to push him into a deeper relationship, the more he pulled away. This seemed to cause jealousy on their
part which caused him to publicly show that he was his own person. He's wondering if his lack of commitment has actually
caused some of the problems he wanted to avoid.
Zach is also wondering how to choose a woman if he likes so many different types of women. He's thinking that may
actually be an asset and will give him a wider range of possibilities. He's hoping that since he now wants a long term
partner, he won't feel the need to struggle to get free the same way.
Do you think Zach will be able to make a commitment? Do you know or are you a Rational Inventor and can you give
information about how other Inventors have dealt with the dating game?
