You got to admit some of that music is pretty wierd.

LAURIE ANDERSON | ||
I had to put Laurie Anderson here at the end of the list instead of at the beginning where she would alphabetically go since her music with vocals is not normally considered to be in the newage category. Yet I believe her music in Group 2 below is quite newage, unique interesting sounds you'll never hear from an orchestra, with unusual lyrics to match. The other groups don't quite make it as new age music.
[group 1] | ||
Big Science (1982)[*] | ||
I disliked this one so much I sold it within a week. I did like the track "Oh Superman" though, which is more like Home of the Brave. This is a landmark recording though being quite unique. The words are bizzare, almost like poetry, spoken observations, with some music to match.
United States (1984)[*] A 4 CD set. Live performance.
Poetic comments on contemporary modern life with some acompanying music. I like it better than Big Science, perhaps because it's live. Contains material from Big Science and material later found on Mister Heartbreak.
[Group 2: Active newage music with vocals to match.]
Mister Heartbreak (1983)[***]
Many pieces on Home of the Brave came from this studio album. Paul who prefers studio albums likes this one better than Home of the Brave. Peter Gabriel on "Excellent Birds". William Burroughs & Phoebe Show too. "Blue Lagoon" is Paul's favorite track.
Home of the Brave (1986 live)[****]
A live stage show. Not just the singing of a sequence of songs, this is a show. A rock/performance-art fun show. Bizzare lyrics, poetic observations to music, an unusual Laurie Anderson type show. (Also available on video tape).
[group 3] | ||
Strange Angels (1989)[***]
More traditional songs with lyrics, though still definitely Laurie Anderson with lyrics like "Last night I heard a host of angels, and they were all singing different songs, and it sounded like a lot of lawn mowers, mowing down my lawn."
[group 1 cont. (back to group 1 type stuff)]
Bright Red (1994)[**] | ||
More like United States, mostly poetic commentary with background music. |

but Paul was eager to buy it from me after hearing I thought it was uninteresting. He thinks it's quite good.
PAUL LLOYD WARNER The Spirit of Puget Sound (1989)[**]
Show off piano music. It's in the typical vein of David Lanz and RAIN, but he seems to be showing off, making it complicated on purpose, showing off how me can make his hands fly over the keys. P.O.Box 1341 Santa Cruz, CA 95061. May not even be available anymore.
BRENDA WILDE Infinity Road (1993)
YELLO Stella very bizarre
PATRICK BERNHARDT | ||
Solaris Universalis (1990)
Envelops the listener in a slowly swirling pool of warmth and comfort. Slight nature sounds, bells and repeating sequencer patterns dance in and out of the central musical themes, with the exquisite vocals and stirring instrumental portions which become almost indistinguishable. Leads the listener through a healing process with the heavenly music, soaring freely on the wings of the wind while dancing with the rhythms of the heart.

[These albums seem to go together, being similar. Not too many instruments, not too many notes. Not much of interest, but nice if you like basic simple quiet mostly acoustic instrumental music.]
