How to Remove Warps from Vinyl Records

I don't know if anyone will ever find this useful as vinyl records are obsolete nowadays, but back in the old days when records warped easily I figured out a way to remove those pesky warps, at least enough so a warped record could be played again.

The secret is:

  1. Warm up the edge of the record with a hair dryer
  2. Flex that edge in the direction you want it to go
  3. Dunk that edge of the record under cold water while holding the edge in the direction you want it to go
The secret is in the quick cool down while holding it in the new position.

(I actually learned something useful from all those years studying Mechanical Engineering and Strength of Materials at UCSB.)
