Actor John Cleese of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" fame moved to
Montecito in 1998. He loves Santa Barbara. "It's a beautiful town,
isn't it? It has all the amenities of a big city without the
drawbacks. You've got music, great restaurants, and the art museum
has three Monets". We'll be driving by his ranch in Montecito later.
Oprah Winfrey bought an estate here for $51 million in 2001. The Montecito
spread, just minutes from the village center, includes a 23,000-square-foot
main house, smaller guest houses, a barn, herb and flower gardens,
an orchard, two ponds and a lake. The place is the size of Disneyland!
